Thad’s Weekly Thoughts (Week Seven)

I really like The Greatest Showman. I love the music and the storyline. However, what stands out to me the most about the movie is one of the lessons that can be taken away from a few of its characters. One of the major themes throughout the movie is that no one should be ashamed to be who they are. I think this is one of the most important lessons that anyone can learn in their life: You are beautiful and special just the way you are. Sometimes we can feel as though we aren’t good enough, we aren’t smart enough, or we aren’t attractive enough. The world around us seems to have set a standard of what “normal” is.

Living up to the standards that the world has set before us can seem like an impossible task and that’s because it is. Let’s be honest, I will never be as good looking as Hugh Jackman or Zac Efron. I’ll never be as smart as Albert Einstein. I’ll never be as athletic as Lebron James or as talented as Bob Ross (what a legend). But you know what? I don’t have to be.

In Jeremiah 5:1 God says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” God created each of us and before we were born He designed the way we look, gave us our personalities, and gave us the character traits that make us who we are. God made us exactly the way we are with a purpose in mind. We are all beautiful in our own way, no matter what standard the world sets, no matter what anyone else says, we are beautiful inside and out.

In Psalm 139:14 David is praying to God when he says, “I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” God never told us we had to look a certain way or have a certain skill set in order to praise Him. All God wants from us is to be who He made us to be and serve Him. We are good enough for God.

“Look out ‘cause here I come and I’m marching to the beat I DRUM. I’m not scared of being seen, I make no apologies. This is me.” Be who you are, be proud of who you are. Don’t let the world tell you how you should look or who you should be. God made you the way you are and you are truly incredible. My name is Thad Williams, I am a bald twenty-one year old from Carrollton, Georgia. I’m not the best looking guy in the world nor the smartest, or the most talented. But I am a child of God and if I’m enough for Him then that’s enough for me. This is me.
